Queens Puzzle Solver

Enter a 5×5–12×12 colored-region Queens board to find a solution and check whether it is unique. Queens must occupy one cell in every row, column and region, and cannot touch diagonally. This solves region Queens puzzles, not the chess N-Queens problem.

Choose a region number, then tap cells or drag to paint. Every cell needs a region; each of the 7 regions must connect through edges. Your board stays in this browser and is never uploaded.

Paint your Queens board. Rows run top to bottom; columns left to right. Numbers identify regions; × means excluded.

Paint the regions, or load an example.

What the result means

The solver searches for up to two solutions. It stops after 250,000 search nodes or three seconds. A timeout is an incomplete search, not proof of impossibility.

This first version accepts hand-painted regions. It does not accept screenshots or an existing partial Queen layout, and it does not provide a human-style deduction for every input.
